In the Primary classroom, we teach Zoology through lessons, stories and sequential, Hands-on activities. We start early in the year with Living / Non-living presentations and sorting. We then move to Animals / Plants and then to Vertebrate / Invertebrate works. The children learn the five classifications of Vertebrates.
Here is a link to learn about all five classifications. At the bottom of each page, you can advance to the next classification.

A favorite activity all year long is Vertebrate Coloring. The children can color one page, they can make a book and they can label the parts of each classification.
And here are the control sheets for coloring and labeling.
While the children practice the vertebrate works, we also focus on a different vertebrate classification each month. Last month was reptiles and this month is birds. Watch for our bird lessons, coming soon.
